Some children presented their family trees this week! They were able to identify most of their family members and showed a lot of their extended families. They described some like "mommy's sissy" and "daddy's papa". A couple of children have their great grandmothers in the tree. They learned how big some families are and some are small families. Claudia came this week to share some music they sing back home in Germany. The children learned an action song pointing on different parts of their bodies. To finish up their musical activity, they played musical chair to the tune of another German music. It is a fun game that Clara's family play when they have gatherings. The children enjoyed it a lot! Jonathan, Saara and little Ella came to class to share some traditional celebration they have back in Sweden. He showed some photos of some events that happen as they have Swedish midsummer celebration. They made it more interesting by having the children make some head pieces that they wear during this celebration. It was a crafty fun day for the children!

We counted how many members of each family we have in class. The children found out that MOST of them are 4 in the family and the LEAST are 2 and 5 in the family. :) The children experienced a little of Norwegian culture with Line and Beate. Blue and red colored their way in the children's template of the Norwegian flag. They had a taste of the famous vaffle, Norway style. To end the fun activity, the children joined their moms in singing! The children enjoyed the time when they get to see how the families in Norway spend their time together. Below is a video the children watched this week and learn a little bit of how families are called from different places: This week the children had the chance to create unique frames for their family photos. The pictures are all displayed in the classroom. Soon we will be counting how many members of the family they have and write them on a table. The children have the opportunity every week to bring their favorite item that they can "show and tell". This gives the children a chance to express themselves through words and actions. They explain what it is and how they use it. They sometimes tell a short story about it. At the end of the presentations, their classmates are able to ask questions. The children are able to compose their questions like: "How high can it jump?" , "Can it swim?" or "Can it walk?". Listening and speaking skills are developed as well as inquiring through questioning. Here are some of those moments:
The children had a lot to share this week, aside from their creative ideas in presenting their thoughts, they have described how each their families are different or alike from the characters of the book "Creak! Said The Bed". It was wonderful to hear the perspective they have of their own families and connect it with the characters of the story! Thank you to the parents who came and joined in our school wide celebration of Chuseok. The children's playful nature was satisfied with the different Korean games. Their curious taste buds had a treat with festive rice cakes. And, their creativity had a chance to be showcased in decorating traditional fans. We are looking forward to next year's event!
