First day of Literacy week the children came in their pajamas and had a slumber of a day reading books, creating and presenting in class. Mr. Tony Wilson came to our school and gave the children a treat with a fun-filled storytelling time. The story was told while the children draw different items from his bag. They had a blast singing with him as he narrated his stories. Parents shared popular children's books in school as they read them in their native languages. The children enjoyed every story as they saw new characters and followed the stories through pictures. It was a Happy Halloween day for the children as they paraded and introduced their characters for the day. Each child was able to tell everyone who they were. Halloween treats greeted them as they finish each activity in every classroom in ELC. They watched Halloween videos, created Halloween crafts and used their "feely" hands in the "feely" boxes.

Children are taking note of the details of a story. They are learning to identify the beginning, the middle and the end of the story by telling what happened. Each character are becoming more significant to them as they retell small parts of the story. They can identify the emotions that are expressed through the words and illustrations of the book. The children are inquiring with the things they see around them. They begin to sequence events in their mind on how it will happen. These are parts of the new playhouse in the playground and they are identifying what it is as they saw it and predicting what it will be when finished. They are able to make a correct prediction as the maintenance people started putting the parts together. Now, they are excited to use the new playhouse in the playground!
Let me share some of the highlights in our classroom that makes most of our day in Preschool. These are moments when the learning are applied in what they love doing. These are moments when spoken words are not enough to express their understanding. And these are the moments when things that they learn become more meaningful.
Children love books, they love listening to stories and watching them on videos in different formats. Stories encourages imagination and creativity. It also helps in making connections to their own experiences. These are some of the goals we aim to achieve as the children focus on Stories as we move on to our next unit on How We Express Ourselves. Below are the learning outcomes for this unit. Looking forward to seeing you in our classroom with a storybook from your home country! We continued to know more of the family trees of the children. They shared more stories about what they do with their families and how they can express their love for them. We completed the unit by taking a video of each child's presenting their family trees. This will be shared to all parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences and will be provided a copy at the end of the school year. Below is the schedule for the Parent Teacher Conferences this coming week. Looking forward to seeing everyone! The children continue to present their family trees this week and we saw a lot of their grandparents, aunties and uncles. Some children volunteered to look for some family members and point at them on the trees after their classmates presented them. Aki and Tomoko came to class and showed the children how to make some origami crafts. The children were able to fold a dog using colorful papers. Aki demonstrated how Kendama is used. She showed how one needs balance and coordination to be able to learn and enjoy this fun Japanese toy. The children were all mesmerized by the sound of Russian words as Olga read Russian books about animals and the love between mommy rabbit and baby rabbit. The children expressed some of the words Olga read through the actions she demonstrated to them. They enjoyed good books that day. As the children learn more words to express themselves, they are starting to tell more about the things they bring to school for Show n' Tell. To give more time for the children to to describe, tell stories about their items and ask questions, we split the class into two groups. Below is the schedule and their groups for the coming weeks till end of term. A new schedule will be given the coming term. |
