To continue to explore our central idea “Ways tell stories”, this week, the children explored how to be a storyteller by using finger puppets. We invited the children to share their stories with finger puppets during our circle time, and discovered how to be a good storyteller and to be a great audience. The children showed confidence and shared ideas in a group discussion.
“The story teller should say: “Welcome everybody.”
“The audience need to clap their hands.”
“People need to be quiet when they listen to a story.”
“You need to tell people what your story about”
“You can also say: “Ladies and Gentlemen when you start to tell a story.”
“We need to sit nice and listen to the story.”
The children took turns to use finger puppets and told a story in a whole or small group. They displayed confidence and creativity while they told a story. We will continue this exploration when we come back from the break.
We have been starting to introduce the “o” sound, as well as introducing sight words, such as “am”, and review the words “I”, “can” and “the”, in order to help them to read. Some of the children helped their friends to collect some objects that start with the “o“ sound, such as onion, octopus and orange, while some of the children made an “o” booklet and read the book to their friends after they were done. The children also created a sentence starting with “I am” and “I can” and they drew some pictures on the notebook after they created the sentences.
Throughout exploring a variety of learning centres, the children developed different skills, such as social skill, fine motor skill, science and math, thinking skill, solve problem skill and more. Moreover, the young learners learn best throughout hands-on activities and exploration, which helps them to understand and make connections to the world around them. The most important thing is the children are having fun throughout the learning centres in the class.
Ms. Park introduced what Lunar New Year celebration look like and what games to play during Lunar New Year in Korea. Ms. Park also taught us how to say: “Happy New Year” in Korean. The children showed positive to engage the activities and songs with Ms.Park.
To connect to our Winter Celebration unit, I introduced the “Lion dance” throughout a story to the children. as it’s an important part of the lunar new year celebration as a Taiwanese. Some of children were eager to make a lion with a box and other materials. When the children finished lion crafting, they enjoyed doing a lion dance with their friends.
