The children had a lot fun this week, as they displayed confidence to investigate how to test their theories, such as making their own costumes for firefighters, as well as making ramps with wooden and plastic pipes. Moreover, we also went to on a field trip to the Science Museum, where the children explored a variety of learning experiences and had a train ride. Furthermore, they engaged positively and had so fun much when we had ‘Messy Day’. Finally, we had ‘Pajama Day’ and made banana pancakes on the last day before spring break. The children even suggested to write a book about our messy day and the field trip. They displayed confidence to express their ideas, and to tell a story about their days and their projects. What a great way to summarize our unit of inquiry: “How we express ourselves” and the central idea is that through stories we learn and share about our ideas about places and people. Ramp exploration- Exploring in making ramps with wooden and plastic pipes- Ramp making is so fun for the children, as it is full of problem solving opportunities, which teaches children about concepts such as gravity, motion, as well as cause and effect. !Field trip to the Science Museum Messy Day- Messy Play is designed with children's natural curiosity in mind. It encourages the children to explore and investigate their own theories through new experiences, which can lead to a better understanding of the world around them. There is no "right" way for children to experience messy play. Throughout the messy experience, the children gained self-confidence, self-esteem, developed concentration and problem-solving skills, negotiated plans, take turns, and language development. It also presents opportunities for making relationships. Moreover, messy play can offer an outlet for feelings, experiences and thoughts, but most important, it is the children who have so much fun. Pajama and banana pancakes day. We will miss our best friend, Ludvig. We wish him all the best in the future. We will miss him so much. Go luck to his family, as well, in their journey back to the Germany. We will welcome our new friend, Emilie. She will join us after the spring break. The children enjoyed watching the Birds Movie and are aware of the reason why we watched the movie (to help two friends to buy birds’ house). The children have been curious about where the bird’s house will be, what a bird’s house looks like and do real birds come to the house after the movie. To support their interest, we then invited them to go on a birdhouse hunt. While the children looking for the bird’s house, they also noticed a hole in the tree, they were wondering what animals live there. “I think it’s for baby bird.” “I think it’s for spider.” “Maybe is for rabbit.” “How about snake.” “I know, I think ants live there.” However, we didn’t find any bird’s house around the school. Therefore, we went to visit the teacher and two friends who organized the movie on Friday. The children asked a lot of questions including when they will put up the bird houses and suggested to the teacher and two friends to put the houses up on Monday. I guess we are going to be "house" hunting again on Monday. Express ourselves in different ways! This week, some of the children planned to have a beauty shop. To support their interest and challenge them, we then asked what a beauty shop looks like and what they have in the shop. The children created lipstick, a power box, nail polish and an eye-shadow box with a variety of materials, as well as, created a hair cutting and hair washing area. They wrote down “open” and “closed” signs, as well as, the name of the shop. Some of the children wanted to be a firefighter, so they made the firefighter costumes with papers and fabric. Some of the children were interested in making a cat's ears, while other children made a ribbon stick. And some of our friends are interested in finding their countries and asking questions about where their friends come from. In our class, you can always see the children engage positively in their learning and express their ideas through different forms (dancing, drawing, singing, making and so on). As teachers, we listen and support them to make their ideas happen. In Reggio the process of learning involves making connections and relationships between feelings, ideas, words and actions. 3D gIRAFFE Jr. Preschool class was really interested in giraffe. We created handprint giraffe last time and children really excited to make a giraffe with their hands. When we went to the library we found lots of books about the giraffe and we discussed about giraffe’s body parts. Jr.preschool class learned that Giraffes are the tallest land animals which are found in Africa. They have their long necks, long legs, and spotted patterns. They are tall from birth, the calves (baby giraffes) are 6 feet tall. Children wondered about how hairy horn and pattern coat looked like. We made a giraffe chart and looked close at what body parts a giraffe has. During the circle time, Jr. Preschool class discussed what we need to make a giraffe.
Hilma “We need to make 4 legs” Kaylee “A giraffe needs a tail” Seojin “We need to make a long neck for a giraffe” Mason&Quinn “A giraffe needs hair and two ears” Philip “A giraffe read spots on his body” We went to a recycle bin and collected boxes to make a giraffes. Children taped boxes together to make a giraffe’ long legs and we used a piano chair to make giraffes body. I asked what colour we need to colour for a giraffes and children picked yellow to paint the giraffe. We used dot marker to make pattern coat for the giraffe. Children had lots of fun creating 3-d giraffes and wanted to go see the real giraffe next time. Exploring Origami. The children continue to be interested in learning origami, such as folding pineapples, strawberries, and grapes. Origami is one of the fun ways to realize the importance of sequencing, which can also help the children develop writing story. Throughout this Origami exploration, the children have become aware of the concept of first, second and so on, which is connected the concept of a beginning, middle and end, when the children tell or write a story. Ways we tell/listen stories. The children continue to be interested in exploring "ways we tell/listen stories". For example, some of children love to listen to audio stories, while some of friends like to tell stories with Lego or blocks. Some of friends enjoy telling stories with storyboard, while some of children like to make their own stories. They all enjoy exploring a varieties ways to tell stories. Literacy Corner! The children have been interested in exploring letter-sound correspondence and making letters with leaves and sticks. Movie time. The children had a great time to watch a movie and have popcorn. |
