Since last week, some children have been interested in making finger puppets with paper. To continue to challenge them, we prepared some fabrics for them to make finger puppets. We introduced plastic needles and how to use them safely, as well as how to sew the fabrics to make finger puppets. Firstly, the children chose the fabric colors and then cut the fabrics in the sizes they desired. Finally ,they started to sew the materials. Knowing how to sew, for anyone, is a useful life skill with lifelong practical applications and many health benefits. To sew requires concentration and focus, problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. It challenges left brain thinking and is a great way to express ones creativity and individuality. Moreover, let’s not forget, sewing can be just plain fun!
The children have been interested in looking at bugs since the first week of school. The children took some photos when they found on. Here are some photos to share with you. You might like to discuss the following with them: where do bugs live, what do bugs like to eat, where do they find the bugs, and the names of the bugs.
Ms. Graff read a book called: ”Book! Book! Book!, and she introduced the letter B and “b” sound, and since then, the children have been looking for B and “b” everywhere. They also noticed that our hamster’s name begins with the “b” sound. To support their interest, we then started to introduce the first letter sounds of their names during our circle time, as well as the “b” sound. We also prepared phonetic puzzles for the children to explore letters and sounds with their friends as well to make "b" booklet. Please help us to collect some items that commence with the “b” sound or your child’s name, such as my name begins with “c”, so I could find a toy car for the “c” sound.
To connect the children's learning with their living environment, we introduced the concept of recycling to the children. We only showed the children how to recycle plastic and paper at this moment. We invited them to put plastic in the blue bin and papers in the paper box. Please encourage your child to do some recycle at home, as well.
We noticed some of children love to explore marbles and investigated the ways to play with them. For example, Théo found some tubes and used tape to close up the ends of tubes, in order to create an instrument-shaker. To challenge their thinking skills, we then put one tube on the whiteboard. The children noticed the tube, so they put more tubes on the board to create marble tunnels. They learned through trial and error to find out how to arrange the tubes on the whiteboard, in order for their marbles to go from one end of the tube to the bottom of the whiteboard, rather than jump off from the whiteboard. It’s so much fun to explore marbles with tubes!!
