As a part of our inquiry on what communities are and how people use their skills to contribute to the community, we invited our parent to come to tell us about their work in the community. Edith's dad came and talked to us about his job. The children listened carefully, made some comments on the big ship he brought in with him and asked some questions.

Learning how to work with others can be challenging proposition for young children. However, it is important to give the children different opportunities to work together to complete tasks to promote cooperation and improve communication while having fun. Some of our children decided to put a giant floor puzzle together in one of our centers. They were constantly communicating to find the right pieces and collaborating to put the puzzle together. When they were asked which one easier, to work together or to work alone to finish the puzzle, they all agreed that working together was easier.
Junior Preschool have been exploring painting with all different sorts of tools. Recently we tried making our own paint brushes with pom poms, and they worked very well. To set up the activity we pinched one-inch pom poms with clothespins. Each child made a couple of paintings. As they worked they experimented with using the pom pom paint brushes in different ways. Next time we will try using various size pom poms. That would be an interesting addition to new project. The children could see the difference in the lines made by size.
The children have been continually interested in exploring animals, to support their learning. We then suggested to them to make an animal house. Mason agreed: “Yes”. Niwa: “We can use box to make house. Hae-ra: “box?” The children discussed and shared their ideas about which color the house should be. They agreed on pink and blue; they were so excited to paint the house by using different art tools, such as brushes, rollers, and shapes stamps. Some of the children demonstrated confidence to share their ideas to decorate the house, such as coloring the house with canyons. They cannot wait to go in the house. The children have a hundred varieties of language to express their ideas and thoughts. Throughout animal exploration, some of the children were interested in sorting the animals by color, and pattern, while some of children were interested in drawing and making animals. Some of the children were interested in the actions of animals, while some of the children were interested in how different of each animal’s tail. The children have been learning about animals through a variety of exploration. In our PE class, we are focusing on
1) moving in your own space using different movements (like an animal, skipping, hopping, galloping, etc) 2) rolling, throwing, catching (mostly using stations) Every Tuesday and Thursday, Junior and Senior Preschool classes begin with singing Korean songs with all the teachers. The children have been singing "Three Bears" in Korean and here is the song on Youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy43KBuVGM0. The week, Junior Preschool students went out for Nature Walk and explored around the school to enjoy the autumn season. We went outside and observed how the leaf color is changed. Children collected the leaves and branches. They found out the leaf color has been change and decided to take them to the class to observe more. We placed what we collected from outside in the science area and draw what we could see. Junior Preschool students trace leaves and branches on the paper and record what they could see. After our visit to the musical play on Monday, the children have been interesting in pigs and wolves. Some of children attempted make the sounds of pigs and wolves. To support their interests, we introduced different kind of animals and sounds throughout songs, stories and role play (the children even performed a role play at the playground). We provided animals costumes in the dress up corner, such as a cow, a horse, a tiger, a sheep, and a giraffe. The children enjoyed putting the costumes on and acting. You might hear some animals’ sounds and see some action at home, and you know where the ideas came from. ;) Play is the best way for the young learner to learn and understand the world around them. The children enjoy playing and exploring with different materials in a variety of leaning corners, in order to develop independent, fine and gross motor, pre-writing, social, numeracy skills and many more skills for them to grow. Every child has different interests, such as try to use scissors, acting like animals, exploring sand and water, painting…etc; they are all very busy to explore something in the learning corners. What a great group of learners we have in playgroup. ;) Flied Trip to watch a musical play-Three little Piglets |
