The children were able to adjust to their routine quickly after they had a long break. They knew where their materials was, which corners they wanted to go, and what to do at the learning corners. The children continued to be interested in the same things as before winter break, such as pretending to be Mommy, Daddy, Brother, Sister and Baby. Moreover, since last week, they enjoy play-acting to cook food, to go shopping and to set up the table. We then invited them to make pumpkin pancake. They washed, cut, and peeled the pumpkin and mixed it with flour. The all enjoyed to participant in the process of how to making pumpkin pancake. To keep them keen in their interests, we then invited them to bring some fruit to make fruit salad and to share it with their friends. They loved the idea that they could cut and prepare a fruit salad party for their friends. The children have been interested in learning phonetics and tracing letters. To make connections between these sounds/letters and fun, we have been starting to learn beginning sounds with their names. This week, we discussed about the “s” and “m” sounds, through songs, games( I spy), and tracing letters on their back or hands... and more hand on activities. Next week, we will discuss about “n” and “q”. Please continue to bring some objects that begin with the sounds of your child’s name. If you notice that your child is interested to trace the letters, please use the common language and remind them to start “from the top”.
